How can we capture the world in our sketchbook?

Nature journaling is a hobby that merges science and art, and is a fun way to connect closely with our environment from your River Modern home. Here are some tips to get started.

Drawing or sketching

If you like drawing and sketching, prepare a sketchbook for your nature journaling journey. Observe animals, sceneries, landscapes, or plants you find in the condo gardens, park, or nature reserve. If you want to emphasize something you discovered or a new observation, you could always highlight that part in your drawing.

Writing

Descriptive writing is where you write about what you saw and experienced during your time outdoors. Write down observations you have made, behaviors, what it looks like, and other things you find interesting.

Stories

Write stories about your experience when you are journaling, which can serve as inspiration for future entries in your journal the next time you go out. Talk about your feelings and thoughts regarding your experience, your observations, how you feel about it, or how it affected you.

Put locations and dates

After sketching or writing your observations, put the date and location so you know when you drew it. This way, you’ll be able to remember specific places you have been and monitor seasonal changes that occur in these areas.

Take photographs

If you are not into drawing that much and like photography, you can turn your journal into a scrapbook. Compile photos you have taken on your camera to capture an amazing discovery or a beautiful moment.
